Everyone who lives in, works in or visits the New Forest, will know and love the ponies, which roam free on the heath and grass lands here. It was inevitable, therefore, that a Morris dance side based in the New Forest had to have a pony as a mascot.
Bill, pictured on the left, was found languishing in a charity shop, presumably outgrown by his former owner. He underwent intensive rehabilitation and training under Pete's careful supervision, and was ready to begin his new duties in 2007.
A few months later, Polly found us in a charity bric-a-brac market, and also had to be trained and prepared for her new role.
Ponies are sociable animals, and it wasn't long before Bill and Polly became good friends. Bill and Polly help with the Morris, by keeping time with the music, collecting money for our chosen charity, and amusing our audience.
On a serious note, the ponies and their foals that roam the New Forest are vulnerable to collisions with cars, and almost never survive these accidents. Please, please, drive carefully in the Forest, and observe the 40 mph speed limits and the unfenced roads.
